Journalings on Humility

I have been studying out humility for a while now and recently my Pastor preached on it. So, I decided to take my notes and type them out for a blog.

Enjoy 🙂

Matthew 23:11

“The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

  • God honors a HUMBLE heart

What is Humility?

Dictionary.com defines it: not proud or arrogant; modest

Humility does not mean you think less of yourself. It means you think of yourself less. -Ken Blanchard

Humility is a state of the heart. God knows our hearts better than we do.
We can only fake humility for so long. Whats in our hearts will eventually come out…Matthew 12:35 (From a sermon by Pastor Sean Tymeson).

Humility does not promote itself.

  • Humility does not open its own doors.
  • Humility it not a walking, talking promoter of self/gifts/talents/etc
  • Humility DOES allow God to promote them and open doors
  • Humility allows other people to speak highly of them and doesn’t need to speak highly of themselves (via Pastor Joel Traylor)

James 4:10 “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”

The Pharisees are a perfect example of Pride. Jesus was disgusted by them and how they acted.

The Pharisees walked in FALSE humility. They did their acts in the public eye, constantly seeking acknowledgement and praise. (Matthew 23:15)

The Pharisees sought out head places of honor and recognition.

Jesus referred to the Pharisees as “Children of Hell” in Matthew 23:15

The Pharisees are a perfect example of what NOT to do if you want to walk in Humility.

God WILL humble the Proud. (Daniel 4:37, Job 40:12, Matthew 23:12)

Humility is KEY to be a Christlike, Strong Leader worth following.

Jesus modeled perfect leadership for us. He walked in humility. God honored Jesus not just because He was His PERFECT Son, but because He walked in humility.
