3 Things We Are All Called To

The other day I was at Wal-Mart and was in the aisle trying to decide what color of pillowcases to get, apparently this was a big deal to me because I took forever before deciding on the turquoise ones. Anyways, there was a girl down the aisle from me walking very slowly and I could hear her breathing kind of weird. Immediately the words “deviated septum” flew into my head and I was hit with the need to pray for her. God has done this to me many times in Wal-Mart and Target, pinpointing someone out for me to pray for and every single time I get nervous. As the girl was walking by I heard the Spirit say, “it’s now or never” so I turned around and asked the girl if I could pray for her and she smiled and said “yes, please”. I asked her if she had a deviated septum and she said no but she had a tumor removed through her nose recently. So, I was off a bit but got the nose part right, so there’s that! I prayed for her in the aisle and asked her how she felt and she said she actually felt like she could breathe easier. I told her I would continue praying for her and we parted ways.

Through this experience the Lord spoke to my heart. I am called to be a worship leader and other things but my FIRST “calling” sometimes gets put in the back seat. So often we miss amazing opportunities to minister to people because we forget that we are all in full time ministry-we carry the Holy Spirit everywhere and can minister to anyone, anywhere! We are all called to be bold and to BE the Kingdom! We get so focused on our calling/destiny/purpose (whatever you want to call it) that sometimes we forget the basics that we are all called to:

  1. Make disciples; see the lost saved (Matthew 28:19-20).

We are CALLED to bring the Gospel to the lost…maybe it is your neighbor, maybe it is someone at the grocery store, maybe it is in another country…ask Jesus to teach you how you can be part of this “Great Commission” in bringing the lost to Christ.

  1. Bring sickness and disease to its knees.

“Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all      demons and to cure diseases. And He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick … So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere” (Luke 9:1-2, 6)

We are ALL called to heal the sick! If you have the Holy Spirit you have been given the power and authority to HEAL THE SICK!

John 14:12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

Jesus Himself said we will do even greater things than He did on earth because He was going to be with God, the Father. He sent us the Holy Spirit to empower us do amazing things in Jesus’ name on earth! Healing the sick was something Jesus did ALL the time while He was on earth and He has given us the power to do the same!

We are all called to love. We were created with love in our DNA from Heaven.

The Gospels are a great big love story. God sent Jesus to earth out of His deep love for us. Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, and did miracles not just to demonstrate the power of God but out of His love for people! Jesus chose to die for us out of His tremendous love for us. Jesus defeated death and rose again and chooses to pour out His love on us to this day!

Your greatest calling is to LOVE and love well!

Mark 12: 28-34 – One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”  “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.” When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

You’re personal calling on earth is unique and God created you for something spectacular. You were created with divine giftings and talents that God has specifically given to just you-no one else can do what you were created to do! It is important to discover what your purpose is, what God has placed inside of you to do! But, we must never forget the things that we are all called to do: Make disciples, heal the sick, cast out demons, and love endlessly. You can do these things anywhere- the grocery store, sports games, over coffee with a friend, or anywhere!

I know there are a million ways we could expand on each of these things so I encourage you to seek out Scripture and ask Holy Spirit what each of these 3 things will look like for you individually.

You were not created for a mediocre life-you were created to live a supernatural life! You were created to do big, crazy, supernatural things! You have been given authority over sickness and disease, over demons and principalities. You have been given power to do crazy, awesome things! Read the Gospels! Jesus did incredible things and He has sent us Holy Spirit to teach us and empower us to do the same!

Be bold. Be brave.

Be the Kingdom.
